How To Transfer Files From A Desktop To A Laptop PC

You just purchased a laptop computer but all of your data is still on your old desktop pc. In this article we will learn how to transfer all of your important data files from your old desktop computer to your new laptop personal computer. You will require a little technical knowledge to accomplish the task but I will explain the process as simple as possible. You will require two of the following parts and or tools for this task.

  • Phillips Screwdriver
  • USB Gender Changer
  • USB Flash Drive

You will need a Phillips screwdriver and one of the other parts, I personally use the USB gender changer to do most of my transfers, although a flash drive will work just fine and will get the job done. Now that we have everything we need lets get this party started.

First Method Using A USB Gender Changer

  • The first thing we need to do is dismantle our old hard drive from our desktop computer. Grab your Phillips screwdriver and take both side panels off of your old computer, some systems only require taking one side off the computer chassis and a screwdriver may not be necessary to do that, there may be just a handle that pops the side panel off. See illustration below for more details.

It may be bolted to the chassis with four screws, if it is you will need to take off the other side panel to remove the screws, there will be two screws on each side of the hard drive.
